Why Building on the Wrong Foundation is Useless
“Why Building on the Wrong Foundation Is Useless” Matthew 7:24-27  Jesus wrapped up his Sermon on the Mount with a little illustration about The Wise and Foolish Builders. The story is really not about architecture or house construction, but rather about the foundation of people’s lives.
    • “Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like the wise man who built his house on the rock.”
    • But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like the foolish man who built his house on sand.”
You build your life on a firm foundation when you live in faithful obedience to all Jesus has taught you in every area of life. You need the firm foundation of Christ because the storms of life are coming. You need the firm foundation of Christ because eternity depends on Him.

    Why Judging Others Is Useless
Matthew 7:1-5 Who gets hurt when Christians are judgmental toward others?
    • The one being looked down upon
    • The one with the judgmental attitude
    • The church itself
Why do we tend to make rotten judges?
    • We carry our own biases and prejudices.
    • We tend to be vindictive.
    • We tend to project our own faults onto others.
    • We don’t know all the facts or circumstances.
    • People are ultimately answerable to God their Maker, not to us.
How can we be a positive influence on those who  have gone astray without being judgmental towards them?
    • Be discerning.
    • Be personally pure.
    • Be loving, not condemning.
    • Be redemptive, not destructive.

    • The Alternative is so much Better! (vv. 33-34)
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”   - Philippians 4:6-7

    Belonging Fully to God
    Series: (All)

    Psalm 24 - A psalm of David.

The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it,     the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it on the seas     and established it on the waters.

Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord?     Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart,     who does not trust in an idol     or swear by a false god.

They will receive blessing from the Lord     and vindication from God their Savior. Such is the generation of those who seek him,     who seek your face, God of Jacob.

Lift up your heads, you gates;     be lifted up, you ancient doors,     that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory?     The Lord strong and mighty,     the Lord mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, you gates;     lift them up, you ancient doors,     that the King of glory may come in. 10 Who is he, this King of glory?     The Lord Almighty—     he is the King of glory.

    The Unexpected Blessing of Perseverance
“Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”    Matthew 5:10  We need to understand what religious persecution is not.
    • Much of what we have experienced can hardly be considered persecution.
We should also understand what real persecution is.
    • Many believers around the world still suffer for their faith.
Most of all, we should follow Christ’s way of responding.
    •  Be Ready for trials to come because of your faith.
    •  Rely on God for the strength to endure and remain faithful.
    •  Respond with love toward those who do you wrong.
    •  Relocate when prudent, following God’s guidance.
    •  Resist compromise in your personal walk with Christ.
    •  Rejoice in the privilege of suffering for the Savior who died for you, and for the promised reward to come!

    The Unexpected Blessing of Reconciliation
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”   Matthew 5:8  People operate in three different ways:
    1. The Peace-Breakers
    2. The Peace-Fakers 3. The Peace-Makers We bear the likeness of God when we strive to bring peace into the world—peace between people and helping people find peace with God.  There is no greater honor than to be called a child of God!
