Luke 10:25-37
After identifying that one of the two greatest commandments is to “Love your neighbor as yourself,” an expert in the Jewish Law wanted to put limits on who he had to love, so he asked Jesus, “Who is my neighbor?”
But instead of answering the inquiry “Who must I love, and how much must I love them?” Jesus answered the question “Who can I love, and how much can I love them?” The story of The Good Samaritan doesn’t limit who is our neighbor, but rather teaches us how to be a good neighbor to others.
- A neighbor is one who SEES something.
- A neighbor is one who FEELS something.
- A neighbor is one who DOES something.
- A neighbor is one who GIVES something.
After telling the story, Jesus helped the lawyer learn a valuable lesson by asking, “Which person was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” The answer was obvious! Jesus ended the conversation by telling the lawyer, “Go and do likewise.”
To whom can YOU be a good neighbor?
