A God Who Gives
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”    John 3:16 (NIV)  Our Heavenly Father is A God Who Gives.  James 1:17 “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”  God’s greatest gift takes care of our greatest need.  Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord.”  The gift of God’s Son is unlike any other gift. The most personal gift ever given. The most necessary gift ever given. The most costly gift ever given. Cannot be matched, cannot be earned, cannot be repaid.
Ephesians 2:8-9 “For it is by grace you have been saved through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”
Though the gift of God is one we cannot repay, we should respond!

    Responding to Your Own Mortality
In this fallen world in which we live, the question of our own physical death is “when,” not “if.”
    • Hebrews 9:27 (KJV) “It is appointed unto men once to die…”
King David was conscious of his own mortality.  His example can help us respond to the reality of our mortality in a positive way. Þ Invest in things of eternal value.
    • Matthew 6:19-21 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth… but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven…”
Þ Leave behind a legacy of good works.
    • Hebrews 10:24 “Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.”
Þ Leave behind a legacy of personal faith.
    • John 11:25 “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life.  He who believes in me will live, even though he dies.’”
Þ Live a life without fear!
    • Psalm 23:6 “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
