Sermon Notes

Timothy was a young man who became a faithful friend and co-worker of the Apostle Paul.  We can see in his life the wonderful influence of his godly mother and grandmother who raised him in the Jewish faith, then set the example of following Jesus.  From them and Paul, we learn some important lessons about investing in the lives of young people.

2 Timothy 1:3-7 & 3:14-17

Investing in the next generation means teaching the Bible.  “…from infancy you have known the holy scriptures…”  (3:15)

Investing in the next generation means setting a strong example of faith.  “…your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother … and mother…” (1:5)

Investing in the next generation means helping young people discover their own spiritual gifts.  “…be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”  (3:17)

Investing in the next generation means encouraging young people to become all that God means for them to be.  “…fan into flame the gift of God which is in you…” (1:6)
